Mohammad Tajul Islam, who was removed from the position of Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Monday, has described his removal as a normal process.
Tajul Islam said that with a new government coming into power, it is natural for the administration to appoint its own people to carry forward its activities. However, he expressed hope that the families of victims of enforced disappearances and killings in the past, as well as those who were martyred during the July mass uprising, would receive proper justice and fair trials.
He also stated that he would extend any necessary cooperation to the new Chief Prosecutor in conducting the ongoing cases.
Referring to the student–public mass uprising of July–August 2024, he said Bangladesh had achieved a “second independence” through the movement and urged that the sacrifices made by students should not be forgotten. During his remarks, he also highlighted the progress and proceedings of the cases handled during his tenure.
The government removed Tajul Islam from his position as Chief Prosecutor of the ICT and appointed Advocate Aminul Islam to the post.
