Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman has said that Bangladesh will safeguard its independence and sovereignty and does not want interference from any country in its internal affairs.
He made the remarks while speaking to reporters after a meeting with ambassadors held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, February 23.
“Bangladesh will protect its freedom and sovereignty. We do not expect any foreign interference in our domestic matters. At the same time, we are committed to building friendly relations with all countries based on mutual respect and shared interests,” he said.
Khalilur said the government has begun consultations with Bangladesh’s envoys abroad to outline the foreign policy direction of the current administration.
“Our guiding principle is ‘Bangladesh First.’ National interest will remain the top priority. Our policies will be grounded in mutual interest, national dignity and the principle of non-interference,” he added.
The foreign minister said he has so far met with the ambassadors of Saudi Arabia, China, India, Pakistan, the United States and the European Union, describing the discussions as cordial and constructive.
He said the diplomats expressed confidence in the government and a strong interest in working closely with Bangladesh in the coming days.
Expressing optimism about future engagement, Khalilur Rahman said Bangladesh aims to deepen relations with countries in the region as well as other partners around the world.
“We will uphold our sovereignty while maintaining friendly relations. All issues will be addressed respectfully on the basis of equality and mutual dignity,” he said.
He added that more detailed discussions on specific areas of cooperation would take place in due course as part of a dynamic and proactive foreign policy approach.
