Mechanical fault at LNG terminal cuts gas supply

One of Bangladesh’s two floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) or LNG terminals has again experienced a mechanical fault, leading to a reduction in gas supply. Gas distribution across the country is expected to remain limited over the next two days, which could further worsen the crisis.

Kazi Mohammad Saidul Hasan, General Manager of the Operations Division at Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution PLC, confirmed the matter to Jago News on Wednesday (February 25).

He said that a few days ago, gas supply from the same FSRU had already decreased due to maintenance, and now it has developed another mechanical fault, requiring additional repairs. Gas supply has already been curtailed.

Previously, on February 15, the LNG terminal had been shut down for repairs. After two consecutive days, the situation gradually began to stabilise, but just a week later, the gas supply crisis is once again intensifying.
