Jamaat accuses president of breaching oath revealing ‘confidential’ matters

The Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on Wednesday accused President Mohammed Shahabuddin of violating his constitutional oath by publicly disclosing what it described as confidential state matters.

In a statement issued on February 25, party Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar expressed deep concern over the President’s recent interview with a national daily, where, according to Jamaat, important and sensitive state issues were discussed openly.

Parwar said the office of the President is the highest constitutional position in the country, and every statement or action by its holder carries significant national importance.

He argued that safeguarding the oath and maintaining secrecy in state affairs are fundamental responsibilities of the role.

The Jamaat leader claimed that the President’s remarks have sparked fresh debate and uncertainty regarding constitutional continuity and the national oath.

He alleged that such comments were inconsistent with the dignity and prestige of the state and amounted to a breach of oath.

He further said that those in high office must uphold transparency, accountability and constitutional propriety in administering the state.

Given the current political context, he added, restraint and caution in public statements are particularly important.

Parwar urged the President to exercise greater vigilance in future remarks to preserve public trust in state institutions and to uphold the Constitution and the law.
