A truck driver allegedly assaulted an on-duty traffic sergeant as the latter asked him to show documents of the vehicle in Chattogram's Fatikchhari on Wednesday afternoon, February 25.
Police and locals said the cop, Mofij Uddin, was checking vehicle papers in Bibirhat Bus Stand area as part of duty. When he stopped a drum truck and asked its driver, Akbar, to show papers, the driver got angry and mercilessly assaulted him, leaving him injured.
Later, the locals and other police members caught the truck driver, and he was taken to Fatikchhari police station.
"I was performing my duty at the bus stand area. When I stopped the drum truck to check documents, its driver attacked me," injured Mofij told Jago News.
Fatikchhari police station's officer-in-charge, Rafiqul Islam, said the truck driver has been detained, and legal steps are underway.
