Police arrested eight people including seven female leaders of the banned Awami League’s women’s wing during a flash procession in Dhanmondi early Friday, February 27.
Shah Mustafa Tariquzzaman, Assistant Commissioner of Dhanmondi Zone of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said that a group of 20 to 25 women gathered in front of the Star Kabab restaurant on Dhanmondi-2 Road and formed a flash procession carrying banners and placards.
Later, they marched toward Dhanmondi-3 Road chanting different slogans.
Being informed, a patrol team of police went to the scene and arrested seven women around 6:15 am.
The microbus used to transport them was also seized, and its driver was taken into custody, the police official said, adding that a case has been filed against them under the Anti-Terrorism Act with Dhanmondi Police Station.
