Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Asaduzzaman has warned that anyone providing shelter to individuals involved in the Narsingdi rape case will face severe consequences.
Speaking at a coordination meeting with local MPs and government officials held at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall in Jhenaidah on Saturday, he said that serious cases, including the murder of child Tabassum in Narsingdi and Jhenaidah, will be handled with the highest priority.
He cited his experience as Attorney General during the high-profile Magura Asia murder case, which was swiftly resolved.
“No one involved in crimes such as rape, or those aiding or sheltering criminals, will be spared. The law will be applied to the fullest, and political influence or shelter will offer no protection,” Asaduzzaman said.
On governance, he reaffirmed the government’s zero-tolerance policy on corruption. “Officials involved in institutional corruption will not only lose their positions but also face departmental action and cases through the Anti-Corruption Commission. Every taka allocated for development and infrastructure will be accounted for. Any involvement in kickbacks or embezzlement will be met with strict punishment,” he added.
Regarding infrastructure projects, the minister warned that contractors involved in irregularities or corruption will have their licenses revoked and will be barred from future government contracts.
Responding to journalists, he said that 133 ordinances issued during the interim government will be presented as bills in the first session of the next parliament.
He also referred to the July Uprising, saying, “This government, formed on the sacrifices of the July martyrs, will not tolerate any disrespect towards them. Those who committed crimes during the uprising will face justice. There is no scope for those involved in fascist acts or genocide to evade accountability through legal loopholes.”
Concluding his remarks, Asaduzzaman said, “From today onwards, anyone involved in extortion, threats, political manipulation, or commission trading in Jhenaidah will face the strictest action. We will work together to eradicate corruption, terrorism, extortion, and drugs.”
