BNP candidates have filed petitions with the High Court challenging the results of four constituencies in the 13th National Parliamentary Election: Rajshahi-1, Kurigram-2, Rangpur-6, and Rangpur-4.
The four petitioners are BNP’s Sohel Hossain Kaykobad from Kurigram-2, Md Saiful Islam from Rangpur-6, Mohammad Emdadul Haque Bhorosha from Rangpur-4, and Major General (retd) Md Sharif Uddin from Rajshahi-1.
The petitions are scheduled to be heard on Monday (March 2) by a single bench of Justice Md Zakir Hossain of the High Court.
Earlier on Sunday, the High Court accepted separate petitions filed by BNP candidate DMD Ziaur from an unspecified constituency and Md Habibur Rahman Habib, the BNP candidate from Pabna-4.
In addition, four more petitions were accepted for hearing on Thursday. These concern the constituencies of Sherpur-1, Dhaka-6, Dhaka-7, and Gaibandha-4. The petitioners in these cases are BNP’s Sansila Zebrin from Sherpur-1, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Md Abdul Mannan from Dhaka-6, Md Enayet Ullah from Dhaka-7, and Md Abdur Rahim Sarkar from Gaibandha-4.
Under Section 49 of the Representation of the People Order, an election tribunal is constituted in the High Court to hear petitions alleging irregularities. The single bench, led by Justice Md Zakir Hossain, is hearing the petitions.
Voting in the 13th National Parliamentary Election was held on Thursday, February 12.
