7-year-old girl found with throat slit in Sitakunda dies

A seven-year-old girl, Jannatul Nisha Ira, who was found with her throat slit in a remote hilly area of Sitakunda, Chattogram, has died. She passed away at 4:30 am on Tuesday (March 3) after undergoing treatment for three days. The information was confirmed to Jago News by her uncle, Md Ramiz.

On Sunday night, the child underwent neck surgery at Chattogram Medical College Hospital. On Monday, she was shifted to the One-Stop Crisis Cell (OCC), where she later died while receiving treatment.

Earlier on Sunday morning, she was rescued from a remote hilly area inside the Botanical Garden and Ecopark in Sitakunda municipality. Road construction workers found her near the Chandranath Temple inside Ecopark. She was first taken to Sitakunda Upazila Health Complex and later transferred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

Police said the child’s throat had been slit in an apparent attempt to kill her. However, authorities have not yet identified those responsible. Family members have demanded justice, saying they do not know who was involved. They also stated that it remains unclear how the child reached the remote hilly area.

Her uncle, Ramiz, said, “My brother’s house is only about half a kilometre from ours. On Sunday morning, Ira left the house. We assume she was coming to our house, but how she ended up in the hills is unknown. She passed away early Tuesday. We demand a proper investigation and justice; the killers must be punished.”

Officer-in-Charge Mohinul Islam of Sitakunda Police Station confirmed that the child died while receiving treatment. Earlier, the child’s mother had filed an attempted murder case. Authorities are now working to identify the perpetrator.
