PM’s Bogura visit postponed ahead of by-election

The scheduled visit of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to Bogura has been postponed in view of the upcoming by-election in the Bogura-6 (Sadar) constituency.

The district administration confirmed the postponement on Tuesday, March 3.

Bogura Deputy Commissioner Taufiqur Rahman said that the prime minister was scheduled to attend a ‘Family Card’ distribution programme in Sadar upazila on March 10.

However, the programme has been deferred ahead of the election, he said, adding that the authorities will notify the public once a new schedule is finalised.

Tarique Rahman, who was elected in the 13th National Parliamentary Election from both Bogura-6 and Dhaka-17, vacated the Bogura-6 seat prior to taking oath in line with constitutional provisions.

The Bangladesh Election Commission has scheduled the by-election for the vacant seat on April 9.
