Universities closed from Monday to save electricity, fuel

The government has decided to close all public and private universities from Monday, March 9, to save electricity and fuel amid concerns over global supply disruptions triggered by tensions in the Middle East.

The Ministry of Education instructed the University Grants Commission (UGC) on Sunday, March 8, to take necessary measures in this regard.

Confirming the matter, a UGC official told Jago News that the Commission will send the directives to the universities, which will issue notices as the UGC cannot announce a closure directly.

The decision means Eid-ul-Fitr vacation at universities will begin earlier.
