Two people were killed after a truck hit a chicken-laden van while it was taking a U-turn in front of Bangabhaban in Motijheel, Dhaka, early Tuesday (10 March).
The victims were taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition, where the on-duty doctor declared them dead.
The deceased were identified as Md Ripon, 45, son of Sakhawat Hossain from Nabinagar in Sherpur district, and Md Sultan, 50, son of Jamshed Ali of Bepari Bari in Sadar upazila of the same district.
Md Shahin, who took them to the hospital, said that around 4:00 am a speeding truck from behind hit the van carrying chickens while it was taking a U-turn on the road in front of Bangabhaban. The collision left the two men on the van critically injured. They were rescued and rushed to the hospital, where doctors pronounced them dead.
Both of the deceased were poultry traders.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the police camp at the hospital, confirmed the deaths and said the bodies have been kept at the hospital’s emergency department morgue. The matter has been informed to the concerned police station.
