Anis Alamgir granted bail in ACC case, no bar to his release

A Dhaka court has granted bail to journalist Anis Alamgir in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). There is no longer any legal barrier to his release from jail, as he has secured bail in both cases against him, according to his lawyer.

Judge Md Sabbir Foyez of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court granted bail to Anis Alamgir after a hearing on Wednesday (March 11).

Confirming the matter, his lawyer Taslima Jahan Popy said he has now obtained bail in both cases filed against him. Therefore, there are no further obstacles to his release from prison.

According to the case documents, the ACC filed a case against Anis Alamgir on January 15 on charges of acquiring wealth beyond known sources of income and money laundering.

Later, on January 25, the investigation officer and ACC Assistant Director Akhtaruzzaman applied to the court to show him arrested in the case. Following the application, the court on January 28 ordered that he be shown arrested in the case.
