Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-6) rescued a kidnapped drug trader, Jahangir Alam, alive nine days after he was abducted in Jashore. His captors had demanded a ransom of Tk 1 crore.
He was rescued late Wednesday night (March 11) from a deserted brickfield in Kholshi village under the Pashapol union of Chaugachha Upazila. RAB members found him with his hands and feet tied during a raid that lasted from around 11:30 pm to midnight.
He was taken to the RAB camp in Jashore around 12:30 am on Thursday and later handed over to his family.
The operation was led by RAB-6 Company Commander ATM Fazle Rabbi Prince.
According to sources, Jahangir owns two businesses—RR Medical and JR Agrovet—in the Shankarpur area of Jashore town. On March 2 at around 9:00 pm, he left his shop on a motorcycle to return to his home in the Dharmatala Sujalpur area. On the way, miscreants intercepted him and forcibly took him away in a microbus.
Around 10:00 pm that night, the kidnappers used Jahangir’s mobile phone to call his mother and wife, demanding Tk 1 crore in ransom for his safe return and threatening them not to inform the police.
After failing to get an effective response from law enforcement for several days, Jahangir’s wife, Reshma Khatun, held a press conference at the Jashore Press Club on March 4.
Following this, law enforcement agencies intensified their efforts. Acting on intelligence, a special operation was conducted by RAB-6’s CPC-3 Jashore camp under the leadership of Major ATM Fazle Rabbi Prince.
During the raid at the brickfield in Kholshi village, Jahangir was rescued in a distressed condition with his hands and feet tied. He was given primary medical treatment after the rescue.
Major ATM Fazle Rabbi Prince said the location of the kidnappers was traced using information technology, and efforts are underway to identify the entire kidnapping gang. More details will be disclosed soon.
