Advocate Ahmed Azam Khan, Vice Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Member of Parliament from Tangail-8 (Bashail-Sakhipur), has been sworn in as a minister.
President Mohammed Shahabuddin administered the oath at the National Parliament building on Thursday (March 12).
Earlier, Major (Retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram, and Barrister Kayser Kamal, State Minister for Land, were elected Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively at the outset of the 13th National Parliament. They were sworn in by President Mohammed Shahabuddin.
As per convention, both are now unable to hold ministerial responsibilities. Consequently, the government has appointed a new minister to fill the vacancy.
