13th JS maiden session to run until April 30

The maiden session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad will continue until April 30, with sittings scheduled to begin at 3:00pm every working day, except on public holidays.

The decision was taken at the first meeting of the Business Advisory Committee of the Jatiya Sangsad, held at the Cabinet Room of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Saturday.

According to the decision, the Speaker has been authorised to change the timing and working days of the session if necessary.

The meeting also decided to allocate 50 hours for discussion on the President’s address, a key agenda item at the start of a new parliamentary term.

The meeting was presided over by the committee chairman, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed.

Leader of the House and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Leader of the Opposition Dr Shafiqur Rahman attended the meeting.

Other attendees included Dr Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain, Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Chief Whip Md Nurul Islam, Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman, ATM Azharul Islam, Opposition Chief Whip Md Nahid Islam, Muhammad Naushad Zamir, and Deputy Speaker Barrister Kaiser Kamal.

During the meeting, members discussed the overall duration of the session and the allocation of time to complete legislative and parliamentary business.

Parliament Secretariat officials said the session has already generated significant interest among lawmakers. A total of 468 questions have been submitted for ministers, including eight questions for the prime minister and 460 for other ministers.

In addition, 27 notices of attention were received under Rule 71, while 97 notices of motions for discussion were submitted under Rule 131.

The large number of questions and motions indicates an active start to the 13th parliament, with lawmakers preparing to raise a wide range of issues during the ongoing session.
