Objections arise only after fair elections, says CEC

Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin said that in the past, objections were often raised only after elections were held, even when the polls were conducted fairly, and the same has happened this time as well.

He made the remarks on Monday (16 March) at a programme held at the Election Commission building in Agargaon to mark International Women’s Day. The event was jointly organised by UNDP and the Election Commission to strengthen women’s participation in the electoral process.

The CEC said that elections remain the central focus of his interest. “I thank all of you for contributing to a fair election. I asked hundreds of people whether they were unable to cast their votes, but none said they were prevented from voting,” he said.

Referring to the last election, he said he had asked many elderly women whether they had faced any obstacles while voting. “They all told me that they had faced no difficulties,” he added.

“I have not heard from a single person that they were unable to vote. In the past, we have seen that when elections are conducted fairly, objections are raised after the polls are over. I am happy that we all together conducted the election,” he said.

The CEC added that he was pleased to have fulfilled the commitment he had made to the nation. He also noted that many women participated in the voting process in this election.
