Veg vendor killed while saving Juba Dal leader

A vegetable vendor has been killed when he was trying to save a local Juba Dal leader from a knife attack by rivals in Kishoreganj's Sadar upazila.

Dead Md Sumon, 41, sold vegetables at Boro Bazar in the district town and was a resident of the Bagadia Pashchim Para area in the upazila.

Locals and police said Dulal Mia, 50, a member of the convening committee of Sadar upazila unit Juba Dal, and a resident of the area, locked into an altercation with neighbour Sirajul Islam around 10-12 days ago.

In continuation of this, Sirajul's son Rubel Mia, 32, equipped with locally made weapons, attacked Dulal in Bagadia Pashchim Para on Tuesday afternoon, March 17.

When vegetable vendor Sumon, who was present there, approached to save Dulal, Rubel stabbed both Dulal and Sumon, leaving them seriously injured.

Locals first rushed them to Kishoreganj 250-bed General Hospital and later, shifted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctors declared Sumon dead.

After the incident, locals caught Rube Mia and handed him over to the police.

Kishoreganj model police station's officer-in-charge Mohammad Abul Kamal Bhuiyan confirmed the matter.
