Actor Shams Suman passes away

Shams Suman, once a prominent face in Bangladeshi cinema and television, has died at a hospital in Dhaka following a cardiac arrest at 6:45 pm on March 17. 

The actor had been battling a long-term illness, according to Rashed Mamun Apu, general secretary of the Actors’ Association.

Shams Suman was also known for his work at a private radio station, and he occasionally appeared in acting roles. 

His most recent appearance on screen was as a policeman in the film Mission Extreme, directed jointly by Sunny Sanwar and Faisal Ahmed. Since then, he had not been involved in any new projects.

Over his career, Shams Suman appeared in films including Mon Janena Moner Thikana, Cox's Bazar Kakatua, Chokher Dekha, Priya Tumi Sukhi Hao, Ayna Kahini, Bidrohi Padma, Joyjatra, Namuna, and Hello Amit. 

He received the National Film Award in 2009 for his performance in Swapnapuran, directed by Shahidul Islam Khokon.

His death marks the loss of a versatile actor who balanced a public career in radio with notable contributions to Bangladeshi cinema.
