The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has formed a four-member investigation committee, led by its administration and human resources director Saiful Islam, following a collision between two passenger launches at Sadarghat Launch Terminal in Dhaka.
An office order, signed by joint director of BIWTA's human resources division Mizanur Rahman, was issued in this regard on Wednesday.
The other members of the probe body are Mostafizur Rahman, Navigation Safety and Traffic Management Division Additional Director Mahmudul Hasan Khandar, Dhaka River Port's Marine Conservation and Operations Joint Director and Navigation Safety and Traffic Management Assistant Director (Marine Safety) Maruf Raihan.
The committee has been instructed to determine the cause of the accident, identify those responsible, and submit a comprehensive report within three working days.
Earlier, the collision occurred at around 5:15 pm on Wednesday when passengers were boarding MV Asha-Jawa-5 (M-1834) via a trawler, and the departing MV Zakir Samrat-3 (M-01-1167) struck it.
Initial reports confirm one death and several injuries in this connection.
