NCP to add two new affiliate bodies after Eid

The National Citizen Party (NCP) has taken an initiative to further strengthen its organisational expansion in the political arena. Two new affiliated bodies are expected to be formed immediately after Eid. According to party sources, the organisations—Jatiya Krishak Shakti (National Farmers’ Force) and Jatiya Swechchhasebak Shakti (National Volunteers’ Force)—may be formally launched soon.

Several top leaders of the party told Jago News that detailed discussions on the necessity of these two organisations have already taken place within party forums. The initiative aims to organise people involved in the agricultural sector, as well as volunteers engaged in social and humanitarian activities. Through this move, the party seeks to increase participation from various professional groups.

Leaders say that although a large segment of the country’s population is involved in agriculture, their participation in political activities remains comparatively low. The formation of the Krishak Shakti is intended to bring forward their demands and directly involve them in politics. Similarly, the Swechchhasebak Shakti will play an active role in social work, disaster response, and public service initiatives.

Earlier, the NCP formed four affiliated bodies—Chhatra Shakti, Juba Shakti, Shrama Shakti, and Nari Shakti. Party leaders believe that the addition of two new organisations will further expand and strengthen its organisational structure.

Party sources said preliminary discussions on the two new bodies have been completed, and top leaders have instructed that work on organisational expansion begin. There are plans to officially launch the activities through a central inauguration after Eid.

Existing affiliated bodies within NCP

As affiliated bodies, Chhatra Shakti and Shrama Shakti have already begun activities, while Juba Shakti and Nari Shakti are functioning as associate wings.

During the July mass uprising, frontline coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement platform—including Nahid Islam and Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain—were involved with a student organisation named Gonotantrik Chhatra Shakti (Democratic Student Force). After the uprising, they suspended its activities. Later, in February last year, a section of former coordinators launched a new student organisation called Bangladesh Gonotantrik Chhatra Sangsad (Bangladesh Democratic Student Council).

Following their poor performance in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union election 2025, held on September 9, discussions began on restructuring the organisation. On October 23 of the same year, it was renamed Jatiya Chhatra Shakti (National Students’ Force) and brought under the NCP as an affiliated body. Zahid Ahsan was appointed president and Abu Bakar Majumdar general secretary. The organisation currently has a 122-member central committee and has formed branch committees in several educational institutions.

To engage youth, Juba Shakti was formed on May 16 last year, with Tarikul Islam as convener and Jahedul Islam as member secretary. Its central committee has 134 members.

Shrama Shakti was launched on October 17 last year and currently has a 101-member convening committee, led by Mazharul Islam Fakir as convener and Riaz Morshed as member secretary.

Most recently, Nari Shakti was formally launched on March 8, International Women’s Day, with a three-member convening committee. Monira Sharmin serves as convener, Mahmuda Alam Mitu as member secretary, and Nusrat Tabassum as chief organiser.

In addition, the NCP has several professional bodies, including the National Professional Alliance. There are also sector-based platforms such as the National Health Alliance for doctors, the University Teachers’ Forum for university teachers, the National Lawyers’ Council and Tax Lawyers’ Alliance for legal professionals, the National Olama Alliance for Islamic scholars, engineering and diploma engineering wings, and a Diaspora Alliance for expatriates.

Monira Sharmin, joint convener of the NCP and convener of Nari Shakti, told Jago News, “We have plans to form two organisations named Jatiya Krishak Shakti and Jatiya Swechchhasebak Shakti. We expect to start their activities after Eid.”

She said, “We have discussed within party forums what affiliated organisations are needed, and these two names emerged from that process. We already have an unofficial farmers’ wing, and this initiative will help advance its work. Activities of the Swechchhasebak Shakti have not yet properly started.”

“Our main objective is to ensure farmers’ rights and economic emancipation,” she added.
