Eid-ul-Fitr on Saturday

The holy Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the most significant religious festivals for Muslims, will be celebrated nationwide on Saturday, March 21, after the Shawwal moon of 1447 Hijri was sighted in the country on Friday, March 20.

Authorities said that the moon was sighted in Cox’s Bazar at 6:16 pm, while no sightings were reported on Thursday, the 29th of Ramadan. 

A meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee was held at the conference room of the Islamic Foundation at Baitul Mokarram National Mosque on Thursday, with Religious Affairs Minister and National Moon Sighting Committee President Kazi Shah Mofazzal Houssain in the chair.

Ater the meeting, the minister confirmed the date and extended greetings to the Muslim community and the nation.

The main jamaat of the Eid-ul-Fitr will be held at the National Eidgah on the High Court premises here at 8.30 am.

Khatib of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, Mufti Muhammad Abdul Malek, will lead the prayers at the National Eidgah. As an alternate imam, Islamic Foundation's Mufassir Dr Maulana Md Abu Saleh Patwari will remain prepared.

The President and the Prime Minister will offer the Eid-ul-Fitr prayers in the main Jamaat at the National Eidgah at 8:30 am.
