Bangladesh’s fastest man finishes 37th in World Indoor Athletics

Bangladesh’s fastest sprinter, Imranur Rahman, concluded his campaign at the 37th World Indoor Athletics Championships in Poland on Friday, finishing 37th overall in the highly competitive 60-meter sprint event.

Representing the country as the nation’s sole participant in the prestigious global meet, Imranur clocked a time of 6.71 seconds. While the timing marks his personal best for the current indoor season, it was not enough to secure a spot in the semifinal rounds.

Competing in the second heat of the event, the UK-based Bangladeshi sprinter finished fifth among seven competitors in his group. Across the entire field of 49 international athletes, Imranur’s performance placed him in the 37th position.

According to the championship's qualification criteria, only the top three finishers from each heat, along with the next three fastest sprinters overall, progressed to the semifinals. Despite his season-best effort, Imranur fell short of the qualifying threshold required to advance against a world-class field.

Imranur previously etched his name in Bangladesh’s sporting history by clinching the gold medal at the 2023 Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in Kazakhstan. That landmark achievement set a high bar for the athlete, who has since faced the significant challenge of replicating that podium-level success on the global stage.
