30 injured in Kishoreganj AL, BNP clash

At least 30 people were injured in a violent clash between factions of the Awami League (AL) and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) over establishing supremacy in Mithamoin upazila of Kishoreganj. 

According to police and local sources, there had been a longstanding dispute between Kawarjor union parishad incumbent chairman, also a local Awami League leader, Kashem and BNP leader Nazir’s over establishing supremacy in the area. 

As a sequl to the dispute, the supporters of the two groups engaged in a clash with lethal weapons in the morning, leaving 30 people of the both groups injured.

Locals rescued the injured and took them to Mithamoin Upazila Health Complex and nearby hospitals.

Among the injured, Asad, 35, and Katal Mia, 30, were transferred to Dhaka for advanced medical care.

Kashem, who has faced at least three cases since 5 August, reportedly spends part of his time in Italy, where he also holds citizenship.

Confirming the matter, Mithamoin Police Station officer-in-charge Liyakat Ali said that a team of police, being informed, went to the spot and brought the situation under control.

They were looking into the matter, the OC added.
