The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed Habibul Bashar, the former Bangladesh captain, as the new chairman of the selection committee for the Bangladesh men's team.
Bashar replaces Gazi Ashraf whose tenure came to an end in February.
Bashar, who led Bangladesh in 18 Tests and 69 ODIs, served as a men's selector for eleven years from 2013, before heading the women's wing for a year. Bashar was working as the head of the BCB's age-group cricket, when he was offered the role of chief selector last month as Ashraf's time was coming to an end.
The board retained Hasibul Hossain who was with Ashraf in the previous panel that also included Abdur Razzak till September last year. For the last six months, the BCB only had two men's selectors.
The BCB also appointed former Bangladesh cricketers Naeem Islam and Nadif Chowdhury in the men's selection committee.
Naeem, who played eight Tests and 59 ODIs, hasn't announced his retirement from domestic cricket, where he is one of the leading run-scorers. Naeem has made 11,253 runs in first-class cricket, including 34 centuries. Nadif, another domestic giant who played three T20Is for Bangladesh, became an age-group selector last year.
The BCB had advertised for the selection panel last month, with several former Bangladesh cricketers like Javed Omar and Mohammad Rafique reportedly being interviewed for the role.
The BCB said in the press release that the four-member selection panel's tenure will run till the end of the 50-over World Cup in 2027.
