The Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested Lieutenant General (Retd) Sheikh Mamun Khaled, former Director General of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI).
He was arrested on Wednesday night (March 25) from his home in Mirpur DOHS, Dhaka. DB Joint Commissioner Mohammad Nasirul Islam confirmed the arrest but did not provide immediate details regarding the case.
Sources say Sheikh Mamun faces allegations including DGFI’s involvement in political activities, orchestrating so-called “militancy dramas” during his tenure, and embezzling hundreds of crores through abuse of power.
Sheikh Mamun Khaled is a retired senior officer of the Bangladesh Army’s Signal Corps. He served as DG of DGFI from 2011 to 2013 and has also held the positions of Commandant of the National Defence College and Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP).
On May 22, 2025, a court imposed a travel ban on Sheikh Mamun, his wife Nigar Sultana Khaled, and two others. The order was issued by Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court following two separate petitions from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
