Locals in Tarash, Sirajganj, have alleged that petrol seized by a mobile court has gone missing, with accusations directed at the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) who conducted the seizure.
According to residents, on Friday (March 27), UNO Nusrat Jahan and Executive Magistrate Nusrat Jahan conducted a raid at Messrs Molla Enterprise in Binsara Bazar, seizing 395 litres of petrol. The petrol was later taken to the Khalkula Cooperative Filling Station for sale.
An official at the filling station, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that two drums of petrol were brought there by UNO Nusrat Jahan. One drum was sold at one litre per person, while the other was reportedly sent to Mannannagar Motor Shramik Filling Station for sale.
A video recorded shortly after the mobile court operation shows one drum of the seized petrol being sold at the Khalkula Cooperative Filling Station, while the other drum was being taken by the UNO.
Meanwhile, Shah Alam Molla, owner of Molla Enterprise, stated that the UNO imposed a fine of Tk 10,000 and seized 395 litres of petrol during the operation. However, he said, only a receipt for the fine was provided, with no official documentation for the seized petrol. He also claimed that the empty petrol drums were returned late at night, around 11:00 pm.
UNO Nusrat Jahan, however, denied the allegations, saying that the petrol was seized and the fine imposed for selling fuel at inflated prices. She added that the two drums of petrol were sold at the Khalkula Cooperative Filling Station at one litre per person.
