Fuel dispute: Truck driver allegedly runs over station manager

A dispute over fuel between a truck driver and a filling station manager turned deadly. Nahid Sardar, 35, the manager, was allegedly run over by the truck driver.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday under the Tularampur railway bridge on the Kalna-Jashore highway. Nahid’s colleague and friend, Zihadul Molya, 29, was also injured and is in critical condition. He was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.

Nahid Sardar managed Tanvir Filling Station in the upazila. He was the son of the late Akram Sardar of Peroli village, Tularampur Union. His injured colleague, Zihadul Molya, is the son of Zahurul Molya from the same area.

CCTV footage shows that after a verbal argument on Saturday midnight, the truck driver remained at the station. At 2:10 am, Nahid left the station with Zihadul on a motorcycle after finishing work. The truck reportedly chased them at high speed, running over Nahid on the spot. Zihadul was initially taken to the district hospital before being sent to DMCH in critical condition. Colleagues and locals have demanded justice, calling the incident a premeditated act of murder motivated by anger over fuel.

Filling station employees said that on Saturday night, a truck driver named Sujat visited Tanvir Filling Station to get fuel. A dispute arose between him and Nahid over the fuel, and when he was denied, the driver allegedly threatened to run Nahid over publicly.

Tularampur Highway Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Sheikh Sekendar Ali, confirmed that Nahid Sardar’s body has been sent to the district hospital morgue following the truck attack.
