Tarique rolls out 180-day, one-year and 5-year roadmap in JS

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has presented a comprehensive roadmap in Jatiya Sangsad outlining the government’s action plan for the next 180 days, the upcoming fiscal year, and the next five years, alongside a sector-wise update on progress in implementing the election manifesto.

He shared the details in response to a written question from Tahsina Rushdi on the sixth day of the first session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad on Wednesday, April 1.

The Prime Minister said all ministries and departments have been directed to formulate structured work plans aligned with the manifesto, noting that several key commitments have already seen significant progress.

Social protection and agriculture

To support marginalised families, a pilot programme has been launched to distribute ‘Family Cards’ to 37,814 female-headed households across 15 wards in 13 districts. In parallel, the government is introducing farmers’ cards on a pilot basis in 11 blocks across 10 districts to strengthen agricultural support systems.

As part of its election pledge, the government has also waived agricultural loans of up to Tk 10,000 in the crop, livestock and fisheries sectors.

Religious welfare

Honorariums have been disbursed to 9,102 religious functionaries ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr. Beneficiaries include imams, muezzins, khadems, Hindu priests, sebaits, and leaders of Buddhist monasteries, reflecting a multi-faith inclusion approach.

Health and education initiatives

A project to introduce 2.5 million ‘e-Health Cards’ is currently awaiting approval, with Khulna set as the pilot district.

In education, the government plans to distribute free school uniforms to 2,00,000 primary school students within the current fiscal year. To enhance technical education, 9,000 teachers will receive tablets, and 3,832 multimedia classrooms will be established within the next 180 days.

Additionally, 172 students are set to receive training in Italian and Japanese languages, while free Wi-Fi will be introduced in 418 technical and madrasa institutions by June 2026.

Environment and water management

A major five-year initiative to excavate and re-excavate 20,000 kilometres of canals has already begun, with 1,204 km completed as of June. Another 1,500 km will be restored under government support programmes.

The government has also produced 1.5 crore saplings as part of a broader plan to plant 25 crore trees over five years, aiming to boost green employment and environmental sustainability.

Youth and sports development

A national committee has been formed to identify and develop playgrounds across urban and rural areas. Meanwhile, a new ‘sports allowance’ has been introduced, initially targeting 500 athletes. So far, 129 internationally successful athletes have begun receiving financial support.

Digital economy and infrastructure

Steps have been taken to operationalise Hi-Tech and Software Parks more effectively, alongside renewed efforts to launch PayPal services in Bangladesh.

Student support measures

To ease access to overseas education, the unsecured loan ceiling for language students has been raised from Tk 3 lakh to Tk 10 lakh. The process has also been simplified for students travelling to Japan using a Certificate of Eligibility.

The Prime Minister said the government remains committed to the timely implementation of its manifesto, with coordinated efforts across ministries to ensure both short-term delivery and long-term transformation.
