4.68 lakh posts vacant in govt offices: State Minister

Some 4.68 lakh out of 19.19 lakh posts in different government offices now remain vacant, according to the Statistics of Public Servants 2024 placed by State Minister for Public Administration Md Abdul Bari, MP, in Parliament on Wednesday, April 1.

The number works out to more than a quarter (25%) of the designated posts.

The latest statistics were prepared based on information updated till December 31, 2023, he said while replying to a starred question from treasury bench lawmaker Sk Md Rejaul Islam (Naogaon-6) during the question-and-answer session in the House.

The total number of working employees in all ministries and government offices is 1450,891 and the total number of vacant posts is 468,220, according to the Statistics of Public Servants 2024.

As many as 68,884 posts remain vacant from 1st to 9th grade (first class), while 129,166 from 10th to 12th grade (second class), 146,799 from 13th to 16th grade (third class), 115,235 from 17th to 20th grade (fourth class), and 8,136 other posts are vacant.

The number of working officers and employees in the all ministries and government offices is 190,773 from 1st to 9th grade (first class), while 233,726 from 10th to 12th grade (second class), 613,835 from 13th to 16th grade (third class) and 404,577 from 17th to 20th grade (fourth class). Besides, 7,980 employees are working in ministries and government offices.
