US Army Chief of Staff General Randy George has been removed from his post by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth as part of a sweeping leadership overhaul at the Pentagon, according to multiple officials familiar with the decision.
The move, carried out on Thursday, comes amid a broader effort by Hegseth to reshape the Department of Defense in line with President Donald Trump’s national security agenda.
The restructuring reportedly includes the dismissal and reassignment of several senior military officers, including generals and admirals.
The Pentagon has formally described George’s departure as a “retirement.” However, officials noted that he still had more than a year remaining in his term, and no specific reason has been publicly provided for the early exit.
