Police have seized a truck carrying about 4,500 litres of diesel during an operation in Gangni upazila of Meherpur early Friday.
The operation was conducted around 2:30 am at Sahebnagar Bazar area in the upazila.
According to police, the truck had been transporting diesel from the Khulna depot to Goal village in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia. However, instead of reaching its destination, the vehicle stopped at Sahebnagar Bazar, where the fuel was allegedly being offloaded at a local shop owned by a fertilizer and pesticide trader named Ripon.
Acting on a tip-off, Gangni police conducted a raid and intercepted the activity. When officers asked for valid documentation for the fuel, those involved failed to produce any legal papers.
Police then seized the diesel-laden truck from the scene and took it into custody.
Confirming the matter, Gangni Police Station Sub-Inspector Abdul Karim said that the seized fuel and documents are being verified, and further legal action will be taken after the investigation is complete.
