Ex-bank official stabbed dead in Bogura

A 70-year-old retired bank officer was stabbed to death allegedly by a group of unidentified assailants at the home of her residence in Shibganj upazila of Bogura on Saturday evening.

The incident took place around 7:00 pm at in the Mohabbat Nondipur area of Maidanhatta union in the upazila.

The deceased, Shahanaz Begum, wife of late Abul Khaleque, was as a former principal officer at the Bangladesh Krishi Bank.

According to police and local sources, the attackers entered the house and repeatedly stabbed her with a sharp weapon before fleeing the scene. Family members later found her critically injured and transported her to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital where doctors pronounced her dead.

On information, a team of police recovered the body and sent it to the hospital moruge for a post-mortem examination, said Shibganj police station officer-in-charge Shahinuzzaman.

Police were trying to arrest the accused involved in the incident, the OC said, adding that legal action would be taken afer identifying them.

Relatives said that at the time of the incident, another family member was allegedly confined in a separate room by the attackers. 

Abu Raihan Sujon, nephew of Shahanaz, said that he was alerted while at a local market and returned home to find her gravely injured.
