BNP’s Rubel clinches big win in Sherpur-3 by-election

BNP nominated candidate Mahmudul Haque Rubel has won the Sherpur-3 (Sreebardi–Jhenaigati) by-election by a wide margin, according to unofficial results.

The voting was held at 128 polling centres in the constituency.

Confirming the matter, District Returning Officer Mohammad Jahangir Hossain said that Rubel, contesting with the sheaf of paddy symbol, secured 166,117 votes. 

His nearest rival, Masudur Rahman Masud, who ran with the scales symbol, received 47,051 votes while Mizanur Rahman with the scissors symbol obtained 480 votes.

The voter turnout in the constituency was recorded at 52.19 percent.

Election officials said the Sherpur-3 constituency comprises 17 unions and one municipality across two upazilas. A total of 413,377 registered voters cast their ballots at 128 polling stations, which included 751 voting booths.
