Govt moving towards implementing ‘Spirit of July’: AG

Attorney General Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal on Friday said the government is progressing towards implementing the 'spirit of July,' reflecting public aspirations to establish an anti-fascist state.

He made the remarks while addressing a view-exchange meeting with local residents at the Kotchandpur Pilot High School ground in Jhenaidah.

'The anti-fascist spirit emerged through the July mass uprising, and the current government represents that spirit,' he said, adding that the administration remains committed to fulfilling the expectations of the people.

Kajal also said the government has already formulated a policy to ensure the protection and welfare of those involved in the July movement.

Addressing judicial independence, the Attorney General said the government is determined to establish a separate secretariat for the judiciary. He noted that the Law Minister has already outlined the government’s position in Parliament.

Referring to a High Court verdict on the matter, he said the ruling is not final and that the issue will be resolved through the appellate process.

Commenting on the verdict in the Abu Sayed murder case, Kajal said the tribunal delivered its judgment based on evidence.

He also emphasised that both the government and the accused have the right to appeal within 30 days.

He urged the aggrieved parties to seek legal remedies through the courts rather than reacting in the media, noting that claims of innocence must be addressed within the judicial framework.

The meeting was chaired by Kotchandpur Upazila BNP President Abdur Razzaque, with District Council Administrator MA Majid attending as special guest.

Jhenaidah district BNP General Secretary Zahiduzzaman Mona, district Bar Association president advocate Ekramul Alam, BNP vice-Ppresident Abubakar Biswas, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Enamul Hasan, officer-in-charge Md Asaduzzaman, and local leaders and activists of the party and its affiliated organisations, were peresent on the occasion.
