20 injured in Dhamrai NCP factional clash

At least 20 people were injured in a clash between two factions of the National Citizen Party (NCP) in Dhamrai, Dhaka, during a dispute over the inauguration of a new upazila office.

The incident took place on Friday afternoon, April 10, in the Kalampur bus stand area, where party leaders and activists had gathered for an office inauguration programme.

According to local sources, tensions escalated following the formation of the Dhaka District North committee, which some upazila-level leaders alleged was created without proper consultation with leadership in Savar, Ashulia, and Dhamrai. Disputes were further fueled by the establishment of a new upazila office in Kalampur despite the existence of an earlier office in the Dhulivita area.

The situation turned violent when arguments broke out between rival groups at the event, leaving at least 20 people injured. Both factions have accused each other of initiating the attack.

Dhaka District North convener Nabila Tasnid claimed that her supporters were targeted by opponents opposed to the new committee structure, resulting in injuries to several party members.

Dhamrai Upazila coordinator Israfil Islam Khokon said the clash stemmed from dissatisfaction over the committee formation process and the decision to establish a parallel office without consensus. He confirmed that several leaders from his side were also injured.

Dhamrai Police Station officer-in-charge Nazmul Huda Khan said that no formal complaint had been filed as of Friday evening.

Police visited the scene immediately after the incident and said legal action would follow if a case is lodged.
