Teacher dies of heart attack while queuing for fuel

A school teacher died after reportedly suffering a heart attack while waiting in line at a filling station in Rangpur city on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased, Mehedi Hasan, 32, son of Matiur Rahman, a resident of New Engineer Para in the city, was a teacher at Lahirirhat Government Primary School and also a student of the Statistics department (6th batch) at Begum Rokeya University.

According to family sources, Mehedi Hasan had gone to the Surma filling station, located near the Parjatan Motel area, to collect fuel. While standing in the queue, he suddenly collapsed.

He was immediately taken to Rangpur Prime Medical College Hospital, where on-duty doctors declared him dead.

Mah Alam, a duty official at the filling station, said the victim fell to the ground without warning while waiting in line and was quickly transported to the hospital.

Azad Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Police Station under Rangpur Metropolitan Police, said the are informed of the incident and are gathering further details.

The cause of death is believed to be a heart attack, though no official medical statement has yet been released.
