Former Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad and Awami League Presidium Member Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury has been released from prison on bail.
She was freed from Kashimpur Females' Central Jail in Gazipur at 6:30 pm on Sunday, April 12, upon receiving her bail papers, confirmed senior jail superintendent of the prison, Kawalin Nahar.
Earlier today, a Dhaka court granted bail in a case filed over an attempted murder allegation linked to violence during an anti-discrimination movement.
She was arrested in Dhaka's Dhanmondi on April 7. When she was subsequently produced before the court, her applications for both remand and bail were rejected, and she was ordered to be sent to jail.
The case complaint alleges that serious offences, including attempted murder, took place during clashes, in which she was named as an accused. However, the defence maintains that there is no specific evidence placing her directly at the scene of the incident.
