Telenor boss meets PM

A high-level delegation from Norway-based Telenor Group, led by President and Chief Executive Officer Benedicte Schilbred Fasmer, called on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Cabinet Division on Monday to explore opportunities for expanded telecommunications investment and digital infrastructure development in Bangladesh.

According to a press release issued by the PMO, the meeting, held at the Cabinet Division, focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the digital sector and advancing Bangladesh's vision for a technology-driven economy.

During the talks, both sides examined potential avenues for Telenor to deepen its involvement in Bangladesh's rapidly evolving telecom market. Key topics included investment in next-generation network infrastructure, expansion of broadband connectivity in rural areas, and support for the government's Digital Bangladesh initiative.

Fasmer, who assumed the role of President and CEO of Telenor Group in December 2024, expressed appreciation for Bangladesh's progress in digital transformation and reaffirmed Telenor's long-term commitment to the market.

Telenor Group has maintained a significant presence in Bangladesh through its majority ownership of Grameenphone, the country's largest mobile network operator. With more than 80 million subscribers, Grameenphone plays a pivotal role in providing voice and data services across urban and rural regions.
