Baul singer Abul Sarkar, who was granted six months’ bail by the High Court on April 6 in a case alleging insult to religious sentiments and defamation of religion, was released on Monday (April 13). However, due to illness, he did not speak to journalists after his release.
He was freed from Kashimpur High Security Central Jail Part-2 in Gazipur at 11:20 am.
After coming out of the prison, he first traveled to the main gate by rickshaw. He later left the area in a white microbus. His family members were present at the time.
The matter was confirmed by Senior Jail Superintendent Halima Khatun of Kashimpur High Security Central Jail Part-2.
She said that after the bail documents reached the jail and were verified, he was released as there were no other cases against him.
Earlier, on 4 November, 2025, during a Palagan performance at the Khala Pagli fair in the Jabra area of Ghior upazila, Manikganj, Abul Sarker allegedly made remarks that insulted religion. A video of his comments circulated on social media, drawing criticism.
On the night of 19 November, 2025, he was arrested by a team of Manikganj DB police during a musical event in Madaripur and brought to the Manikganj District DB office the following morning. Later that day, a complaint was filed against him by Mufti Md Abdullah at Ghior Police Station. Subsequently, he was remanded in custody by the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court of Manikganj.
Following his arrest, Abul Sarkar applied to the High Court seeking bail in the case.
