Four members of the same family were hacked indiscriminately over a financial dispute in the Kajla Bhanga Press area under Jatrabari Police Station in the capital early Tuesday (April 14). A 20-year-old woman, Dia Akter, a student of Sheikh Borhanuddin College, was killed in the incident. Three others—Mousumi (35), Muaz (15), and Joya (12)—were seriously injured and admitted to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Billal Hossain, who brought the victims to the hospital, said that a contractor named Abu Musa was owed money by Nabiullah. He went to Nabiullah’s house early in the morning to collect the payment. At one stage of an argument, Nabiullah became agitated and attacked Abu Musa with a sharp weapon, leaving him injured.
In retaliation, Abu Musa attacked Nabiullah’s wife, Mousumi Akter, severing her left wrist. When their daughter Dia tried to intervene, she was also attacked. He then attacked their other daughter Joya and son Muaz, leaving them seriously injured.
The victims were later rescued and taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared Dia dead. The other three are currently undergoing treatment. Abu Musa is also receiving treatment at the same hospital under police custody.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the police camp at the hospital, confirmed the death and said that the body has been kept in the hospital morgue. The matter has been reported to the concerned police station.
