Body of Bangladeshi expat killed in Bahrain arrives in Dhaka

The body of Girish Chandra Sutradhar, who was killed in Bahrain after being struck by debris from a missile during the Middle East war, arrived in Dhaka on Wednesday morning.

The body reached Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at around 8:30 am on Wednesday (April 15) on an Emirates Airlines flight.

Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir was present at the airport to receive the body and later handed it over to the deceased’s younger brother, Naresh Sutradhar.

Senior officials, including the Secretary of the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment and other relevant government representatives, were also present at the time.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, the Commerce Minister said that the government is giving the highest priority to the welfare of Bangladeshi expatriate workers. He added that an immediate financial assistance of Tk 35,000 has been provided by the government for the burial arrangements of Girish Chandra Sutradhar. In addition, the family will receive further financial assistance of Tk 300,000 upon submission of inheritance certification.

He urged all overseas job seekers to register through the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) before going abroad so that they are included in the official government database and can receive prompt assistance when needed.

He also prayed for the safety and well-being of all Bangladeshis working abroad and sought eternal peace for the soul of the deceased, Girish Chandra Sutradhar.

Sources said that Girish Chandra was a resident of the Purbomachpara area under Sylhet Sadar Upazila in Sylhet district, and he had been working in Bahrain for some time before being killed after being struck by missile debris.
