Govt decides to recruit 500,000 employees, PM tells JS

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said that the government has taken a decision to recruit 500,000 employees. Of these, recruitment for 2,879 vacant positions is currently underway under the Ministry of Public Administration and its subordinate departments and agencies.

He made these remarks in a written reply during the 14th day of the question-and-answer session of the first session of Jatiya Sangsad on Wednesday morning (April 15).

The Prime Minister said that a centrally formed committee is working on formulating strategies to identify and develop sports grounds and infrastructure across urban and rural areas of the country. There are plans to establish open sports grounds measuring eight bighas in each union and ten bighas in each upazila.

He also said that a committee has been formed to ensure the effective operation of high-tech and software parks and ICT centres, as well as to take effective initiatives to launch PayPal operations in Bangladesh.

He added that, in line with the election manifesto, sports allowances have been introduced for national athletes under the pay structure. Initially, 500 athletes are planned to be brought under this allowance, of whom 129 have already received it in the first phase.

He further said that the existing collateral-free loan limit under the student visa category has been increased from Tk 300,000 to Tk 1,000,000. For students going to Japan, the loan facility has been made easier based on a Certificate of Eligibility (COE), even before visa issuance.
