Coronavirus: 27 new deaths, 5268 cases

Twenty-seven more people died from coronavirus and 5,268 newly contracted the virus in the past 24 hours.

With this, the total fatalities and infections rose to 28,771 and 18,99,803 respectively, a health directorate press release on Friday.

As many as 33,896 samples were collected, and 34,067 tested in the past day.

During the period, 11,353 more patients recovered from the illness, taking the total number of recoveries to 16,55,981.

Bangladesh, however, first reported its coronavirus cases on March 8, 2020. 

The virus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December 2019 and then it spread to other countries.

To date, the epidemic infected 407,043,280 people and killed 5,810,897 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website that compiles the number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, the total number of people who recovered from the virus reached 327,132,941 across the world.
