Voting underway in fourth phase of upazila polls

The fourth phase of the upazila parishad elections is underway in 60 upazilas across the country on Wednesday.

The voting that began at 8am will continue till 4pm without any break.

A total of 721 candidates are competing in this phase. Among them, 251 are vying for the post of chairman, 265 for vice chairman and 205 for the post of female vice chairman.

In the fourth phase, 2,17,34,255 voters are expected to exercise their voting rights at 7,825 polling centres.

However, a total of 67,707 members of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Party (VDP) have been deployed in the concerned upazilas to conduct the elections in a free, fair and peaceful manner.
