NCP among 16 parties pass initial scrutiny for EC registration
Sixteen parties, including the National Citizen Party (NCP), have finally passed the Election Commission’s initial scrutiny stage for political party registration.
The Election Commission (EC) confirmed this information on Sunday, August 10. The next decision will be made after receiving investigation reports from the field.
This time, 145 parties applied for registration. However, after initially rejecting all parties in the screening, the EC sent letters requesting missing information to be submitted by August 3. Subsequently, 80 parties provided the required information, of which 16 passed the initial screening.
According to the EC Act, parties wishing to register must have a central committee, at least one-third of the district committees, and 100 upazila committees, each supported by proof of 200 voters. Additionally, parties with a former member of parliament or those that secured at least five percent of the votes in the last election are considered eligible for registration. Besides these main conditions, several other rules and regulations must be followed. The initial screening primarily focuses on verifying compliance with these requirements.
