Energy ministry assures no fuel shortage for next two months

Monir Hossain Chowdhury, Joint Secretary of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, has stated that there will be no fuel shortage in April or over the following two months, assuring that the country’s fuel supply and stock remain stable.

“There is sufficient stock. Insha’Allah, there will be no fuel-related problems over the next two months,” he said at a briefing held at the Secretariat on Wednesday (April 15).

At the briefing, he presented details of ongoing enforcement drives and the current fuel stock situation. According to him, a total of 9,116 drives were conducted across the country between March 3 and April 14, resulting in 3,510 cases being filed. During this period, fines amounting to Tk 15.609 million were collected, and 45 individuals were sentenced to imprisonment.

He added that a significant amount of illegally hoarded fuel was recovered during these operations. The recovered fuel includes 366,000 litres of diesel, 39,776 litres of octane, and 87,959 litres of petrol. Additionally, 48,500 litres of furnace oil were recently seized in Chattogram, bringing the total amount of recovered illegal fuel to 542,236 litres.

Highlighting the current stock levels, he said the country currently holds 101,385 tonnes of diesel, 31,821 tonnes of octane, 18,211 tonnes of petrol, and 77,546 tonnes of furnace oil. Jet fuel reserves stand at 18,223 tonnes.
