SC order on Khaleda’s bail in another Cumilla case Tuesday
The Applegate Division of Supreme Court, on Monday, set Tuesday to pass the order on a leave-to-appeal against the High Court order that granted bail to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in an sabotage case filed over the arson attack in Cumilla on Feb 3, 2015.
A three-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain fixed the date after completing hearing of the leave-to-appeal.
Earlier on Sunday, the SC fixed Monday for hearing leave-to-appeal filed by the state in the case filed against Khaleda under Special Power Act over the arson attack.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam stood for the state while Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, AJ Mohammad Ali and Joynul Abedin for Khaleda.
On May 28, The HC bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice JBM Hassan granted bail to Khaleda Zia in the two cases filed in Cumilla.
Later in the day, the state filed an appeal with the Chamber Court of Appellate Division seeking stay on the High Court bail order.
In response to the appeal, a Chamber court of Justice Hassan Foyez Siddiqui stayed the HC order and fixed Thursday for hearing the appeal in the full bench.
Eight people were killed and at least 20 others injured when miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at a bus at Jogmohanpur in Chouddagram of Cumilla district during the BNP-led alliance's movement on February 3, 2015.
Two cases were filed against Khaleda in this connection.
On February 8, Khaleda Zia was sent to jail after a special court sentenced her to five years’ rigorous imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
