Autonomous vehicles and its prospect in Bangladesh
Road accidents are very frequent in our country and it does take a massive toll in people’s social and economic life. The numbers of events are on the raise and it’s high time to incorporate some of the collision avoidance and impact mitigation techniques prevailing in modern era of transportation. The terms ‘Driver assist’ vehicular systems and ‘self driving’ vehicles systems are widely kwon, in this article I will discuss some key features of vehicle intelligence which can help reduce road mishaps in our beloved country.
Smart vehicle technology, widely known as Autonomous vehicles or vehicles with driver-assist offers some artificial intelligence. Most of the global vehicle manufacturers’ offer A.I. features such collision avoidance, collision -impact mitigation, cross traffic alert, side blind zone alert, lane change assist, driver awareness and many more. While the technology is still under development phase, most of the mentioned features are already available in vehicles with little extra money.

Smart vehicles rely heavily on its in house RADAR and Camera to report objects such as other vehicles on the road, pedestrians, guardrails, trees, animals, etc. All these objects are reported to a central processing unit to generate warnings for the driver; it can even take control of the vehicle in overwhelming situations. In today’s semi autonomous space, a vehicle is able alert the driver of any future collision that might take place or it can prevent the severity of an accident by applying brakes or changing the lane. Today’s modern technology is also able to prevent the vehicle from hitting guard rails or trees while passing.

Every day we see news of road accidents taking place in our country, loosing industrious people of our country or in some cases disabling them for rest of the life. Mostly we attribute the accidents to reckless driving and mindless overtaking. Every accident hurts us and my sincere request to the government is to take proper initiatives to mandate some of the automotive safety features in every four wheeler. Countries in North America and Europe are going big on smart vehicles and they have already made some of the driver-assist features in vehicles mandatory. We should conduct thorough research on the outcomes of smart vehicle technology and implement the necessary features in vehicles.
