Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday urged Qatari investors to invest in Bangladesh, highlighting the immense potential the country offers.

“Bangladesh is now back to business — and back to business in a big way. We want your partnership,” the Chief Adviser said while addressing a program titled Bilateral Investment Opportunities Between Qatar and Bangladesh.

He said the Interim Government has taken significant steps to improve the investment climate and is committed to building a new Bangladesh free from corruption.

Yunus shared an inspiring example of how Bangladesh once convinced Norwegian telecom operator Telenor to invest in the country — a venture that later became the company’s most profitable globally.

Azad Ashraf, President of the Bangladesh Forum in Qatar, delivered the welcome speech.

BIDA Executive Chairman Ashik Chowdhury gave a presentation outlining investment opportunities and recent reforms that make doing business in Bangladesh easier.

“If you’re considering Bangladesh as an investment destination, this is probably the best time to do it,” he told the audience.

Energy Adviser Fouzul Kabir Khan highlighted the Interim Government’s economic progress, noting that Bangladesh’s outstanding foreign debt had been reduced from USD 3.2 billion to USD 600 million.

“This includes USD 254 million owed to Qatar Energy, which has now been fully cleared,” he added.

He also detailed government plans for energy security and infrastructure improvements aimed at attracting foreign investment.

Qatar’s Deputy Under Secretary for Industry and Business Development, Saleh Majed Al Khalafi, and Ali Ben Fardj, co-founder of Next Smart Solutions, were among the other speakers.

Foreign Adviser Md Touhid Hossain was present at the event, while Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Qatar, Nazrul Islam, delivered the closing remarks.
